Drekkana (D3) and Saptamsa (D7) in plain language

Drekkana (D3) divides each sign into three 10-degree parts. Kundaligram counts them in the Parashari way: the first part stays in the sign, the second falls in the 5th sign from it, and the third in the 9th. Saptamsa (D7) divides the sign into seven parts of about 4°17'. Odd signs count those seven from the sign itself; even signs count from the 7th sign from it. D3 is the classical chart for siblings and courage. D7 is the classical chart for children. Both are read after the relevant D1 houses, never as a standalone yes-or-no.

Drekkana: 10 degrees, trine counting
The first drekkana (0° to 10°) of a sign maps to that same sign. The second (10° to 20°) maps nine signs ahead in the “5th from it” count, because counting includes the start. The third (20° to 30°) maps to the 9th from the sign. This is why D3 is sometimes called a chart of trines.
Classical use centres on co-borns, initiative, and courage — the 3rd house topics — seen through this finer zodiac. It is not a medical chart and not a prediction of how many siblings exist.
Saptamsa: seven parts, odd and even starts
Each saptamsa is 30/7 degrees. In an odd sign the seven parts are counted forward from that sign. In an even sign they are counted forward from the 7th sign (six signs ahead in zero-based indexing). Getting the even-sign start wrong shifts the entire D7 by half the zodiac. Kundaligram uses the odd/even rule for every even sign, not a one-sign exception.
D7 is consulted for children and creativity that “continues” a person, after the 5th house and its lord have been read in D1. It cannot certify fertility or family size.
Sensitive to birth time, honest about limits
Ten degrees of D3 is roughly forty minutes of ascendant motion, less of a concern than D60 and still enough to move a planet near a boundary. D7’s parts are narrower. If the birth time is rounded to the hour, say so before leaning on either chart.
Kundaligram will still compute them from whatever time you store. The discipline is in how you ask: “what does D7 add to my 5th house?” is a real question. “How many sons?” is not a question these charts can answer cleanly.
Keep the language non-frightening
Sibling and children topics attract anxious readings. A debilitated lord in D3 or D7 is a technical placement, weighed with the D1, aspects, and dasha. It is not a sentence on a family.
The product’s chart answers are meant to stay in that register: specific, calm, and tied to your stored divisions.
