In a Parashari kundli the twelve houses (bhavas) are life areas counted from Lagna. The 1st house is self and body; later houses cover wealth, siblings, home, children, health, partnership, longevity, fortune, career, gains, and loss or liberation. A planet colours the house it sits in; an empty house is still read through its lord.

Houses start from Lagna
The Ascendant (Lagna) becomes the 1st house. Counting clockwise or by the chart style you use, each following sign-house pair is the next bhava. Accurate birth time and place matter because a wrong Lagna shifts every house.

Occupied vs empty houses
A planet in a house highlights that life area. Several planets together intensify and blend themes. An empty house is not “blank” — look at where its lord sits and which aspects reach it.
Beginners often ignore empty houses; classical reading does not.

- Are Vedic houses the same as Western houses?
- Themes overlap in places, but calculation systems differ (ayanamsa, house systems, classical lords). Treat them as related maps, not identical ones.
- Does an empty 7th house mean no marriage?
- No. Read the 7th lord, Venus/Jupiter as relevant significators, Navamsa, and dasha. Emptiness alone is not a verdict.
- Why does birth time change houses so much?
- Lagna moves roughly one sign about every two hours. A shifted Lagna renumbers every house from the Ascendant.
