Varshaphal — the annual solar-return chart

Varshaphal is the annual chart for the moment the Sun returns to its exact sidereal birth longitude. Kundaligram casts that return with the same Lahiri Parashari engine as the birth chart, then reads Tajika markers such as Muntha on top of it. Because the year changes, Varshaphal is computed when you open the chart or a yearly question. It is not frozen inside the original birth-chart record, and it does not replace the natal kundli.

Solar return, sidereal
A birthday in the civil calendar is close to the solar return but not identical to it. The classical varsha pravesha is the instant the Sun reaches the same sidereal longitude it held at birth. That instant can fall on a neighbouring date, and the Lagna of that instant can change within minutes.
Kundaligram follows the sidereal-return reading of Tajika Neelakanthi rather than a fixed “365 days plus a constant ghati” shortcut. The natal Sun longitude comes from the stored Lahiri chart.
Muntha and the annual layer
Once the annual chart exists, Tajika practice adds its own points. Muntha is the progressed Lagna for the year of life being read: it advances one sign per completed year from the natal Lagna. Kundaligram calculates that year count (gata varsha) from the birth instant to the moment you are asking about.
Treat Muntha as an annual emphasis, not as a second birth chart that overrules the natal houses.
Why it is not stored once
The birth chart for a given time, place, and Lahiri ayanamsa does not change. Sade Sati, Varshaphal, and Mudda dasha do, because they depend on “now” or on which year of life is in view. Kundaligram therefore recomputes them from the stored natal chart when needed.
If a PDF or answer says the annual chart is unavailable, that is a missing yearly calculation, not evidence that your birth chart was never saved.
A year-plan, not a promise
Varshaphal is for questions like “what is emphasised this year?” It is a poor tool for rewriting the whole life from one return chart. Mudda dasha, the annual dasha of that same return, is the timing layer inside the year.
Ask Kundaligram about the current year in plain language after your birth chart exists. The answer should name the return and the natal chart together.

- No. It is a chart for your own solar return, using your birth Sun and the Lagna of that return instant, not a sun-sign paragraph.
- Does the annual chart use a different ayanamsa?
- No. Lahiri throughout, same as the natal chart, so the Sun’s return longitude matches the stored birth Sun.
- What is Mudda dasha?
- The dasha sequence calculated for that specific annual chart. It times themes inside the year. It is not your natal Vimshottari.
