Vedic charts use nine grahas: Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu. Each carries classical themes — vitality, mind, drive, skill, wisdom, relationship, discipline, desire, and detachment. Meaning comes from sign, house, aspects, strength, and dasha together, not from a planet name alone.

The seven classical planets
Sun — vitality, authority, father themes. Moon — mind, habits, mother themes. Mars — energy, courage, conflict. Mercury — speech, calculation, trade. Jupiter — growth, counsel, dharma. Venus — comfort, arts, partnership. Saturn — time, duty, delay and durability.

Rahu and Ketu
Rahu and Ketu are shadow points (lunar nodes), not physical planets, yet classical Parashari practice treats them as grahas. Rahu often amplifies desire, foreign or unconventional paths; Ketu emphasises release, insight, and detachment.
They always oppose each other by sign. Read them as an axis, not isolated stickers.
How to avoid one-planet panic
A single “malefic” label without house, aspect, dasha, and strength is incomplete. Saturn can stabilise; Mars can protect; Jupiter can over-promise if weak or afflicted.
