Bhavbala explained — strength of the twelve houses

Bhavbala is a classical strength score for each of the twelve houses, not for the planets. Kundaligram builds each house from three pieces: the house lord’s total Shadbala, the house’s own directional strength (dig bala), and the aspectual strength falling on the house. The sum is kept in virupas and also shown as rupas (virupas divided by 60). Compare houses inside one chart. Do not treat a low house as a doomed life area.

Three contributions, added
Bhavadhipati bala is the house lord’s total Shadbala in virupas. A strong lord lends that strength to the house. Dig bala is the house’s directional score from the sign on its middle. Drishti bala is the net of planetary aspects on that point, and Kundaligram keeps the per-planet breakdown, not only the net.
Total virupas are the sum of those three. Rupas are that sum divided by 60, the same unit language as Shadbala.
House dig bala is not planet kendra bala
A common mix-up gives houses a fixed 60, 30, or 15 based on kendra, panapara, and apoklima. That table is a planet’s kendradi component inside Shadbala. It is not bhava dig bala.
Kundaligram follows B.V. Raman’s Graha and Bhava Balas. Each sign group has a house where its directional strength is zero: Scorpio-type (Keeta) at the 1st, quadruped signs at the 4th, human signs at the 7th, and watery signs at the 10th. Strength then rises by 10 shashtiamsas per house of distance, folded so the distance is at most 6. Sagittarius and Capricorn sit on the book’s own first-half / second-half boundary; the engine keeps the book’s literal half-sign rule.
How to read a low or high house
Compare the twelve totals with each other. A house can rank low because its lord is weak, because little aspect reaches it, or because its sign is far from that sign-group’s strong direction. Those are different stories.
Use the score when a life area looks confusing in the D1, not as a ranking of which part of life is allowed to matter. Health, marriage, and money questions still need the planets and dashas, plus the product’s ordinary caution that a chart is not a medical, legal, or financial guarantee.
Tied to Shadbala on purpose
Because bhavadhipati bala copies the lord’s Shadbala total, a change in Shadbala method would move every house. Kundaligram computes both from the same classical pipeline and stores them with the chart.

Frequently asked questions
- Does Bhavbala include Rahu as a house lord?
- No. House lords are the seven planets that rule signs. Rahu and Ketu do not own a sign in this Shadbala pipeline, so they contribute through aspects instead.
- Is a high Bhavbala the same as many Ashtakavarga bindus?
- No. Bindus are a different point system. Bhavbala is lord strength plus dig bala plus aspects.
- Can I compare my 7th-house Bhavbala with someone else’s?
- It is a weak comparison. The units are meaningful inside one chart’s own twelve houses, because the lords’ totals set the scale.
