Three nakshatra temperaments
Gana comes from the Moon’s nakshatra, the same Avakhada family as Nadi and Yoni. Deva, Manushya, and Rakshasa describe a traditional style of temperament. They do not mean divine, ordinary, or demonic people.

The matrix is not “Rakshasa is always bad”
Rakshasa with Rakshasa scores the full 6, the same as Deva with Deva or Manushya with Manushya. The harsh cells are the crosses: Deva bride with Rakshasa groom is 0, Manushya bride with Rakshasa groom is 0, and Rakshasa bride with Manushya groom is 0. Rakshasa bride with Deva groom is the exception that still scores 1.

Six points can move a verdict band
Kundaligram’s bands are 33 or more excellent, 25 or more very good, 18 or more acceptable, and below 18 not recommended. Dropping 6 points can push a total across one of those lines. That is why Gana feels larger than Varna at home discussions — and why it still should not be read alone.
Nadi is 8 points and can outweigh Gana. A couple can be same-gana and same-nadi.
Confirm the nakshatra before arguing the label
A one-nakshatra error from birth time or from a non-Lahiri Moon changes the gana before any philosophy begins. Compare nakshatra names across reports first.
If the names match and the score still surprises elders, the usual cause is slot order: bride gana versus groom gana is not the same question as “are these two words different?”
