Varna is the first and smallest Ashtakoot factor: 1 point out of 36. Kundaligram compares the classical Varna of the bride’s and groom’s Moon signs. The groom’s Varna rank must be greater than or equal to the bride’s for that 1 point; otherwise the score is 0. These four labels (Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya, Shudra) are sign categories in the matching table, not a statement about anyone’s caste, community, or worth.

A Moon-sign category, not a social label
Classical guna milan assigns each sidereal Moon sign a Varna. Kundaligram uses the same Avakhada table already printed on a person’s own kundli, so the match report cannot disagree with that chart’s Varna field.
Read the word as a technical bucket inside a 36-point system. A low Varna score does not describe family background, and a full point does not certify a marriage.
How the single point is awarded
Ranks in this engine are Brahmin 4, Kshatriya 3, Vaishya 2, Shudra 1. If the groom’s rank is greater than or equal to the bride’s, Varna scores 1. If the groom’s rank is lower, it scores 0. There is no partial point.
Because the maximum is only 1 of 36, Varna cannot carry a match by itself and cannot sink one either. Nadi (8) and Bhakoot (7) move the total far more.
Bride and groom slots are explicit
The comparison is directional: groom rank versus bride rank, not a symmetric “same category” test. Swapping who is placed in which slot can change this one point.
Kundaligram infers bride and groom from the genders you enter, and asks you to choose when that is ambiguous. The report shows both Moon-sign Varnas beside the score.
Keep the 36-point picture intact
Families sometimes fixate on one familiar word. Varna is the word most often misunderstood. Place it next to Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot, and Nadi, then read the natal charts themselves.
